Fun, fun, fun! The whole book rolls along so fast you forget you're reading it. The world feels big and lush and well-lit. The preface compared this to Dune and wondered why it's not as popular. I would guess Dune's audience skews younger; I read Dune as a teenager and it was heavy and moody, which is what I wanted. I can't remember a single joke in Dune, but Lord of Light is actually funny. Safely out of adolescence, I can enjoy something as light and crisp as this again.
