The Elementary Particles
Michel Houellebecq

It's okay, and maybe that's as much as should be said. It has genuinely funny and heart-breaking moments (the early chapters of Michel as a child), but a lot of it is a slog. It can be oddly and unpleasantly melodramatic. Houellebecq's grasp of science and how scientists work and think is remarkably sharp.
